WHY KNOWING ISN'T ENOUGH

WHY KNOWING ISN'T ENOUGH

Bridging the Gap Between Information and Transformation

ABOUT THIS KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

Overview

In a world overflowing with information, advice, and AI-generated answers, the problem is rarely a lack of knowledge. People often know exactly what to do and still struggle to do it.

This keynote explores the gap between information and transformation, examining why awareness alone does not create action and what individuals, teams, and organizations can do to bridge the space between knowing and becoming.

Drawing from research, instructional design, psychology, and real-world experience, audiences leave with practical frameworks they can apply immediately to learning, leadership, change, and personal growth.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Understand why information alone rarely changes behavior.
  • Identify common barriers between knowledge and action.
  • Explore the role of capacity, emotion, environment, and identity in transformation.
  • Recognize why motivation is often overrated and context is often underestimated.
  • Learn practical strategies for moving ideas into action.
  • Leave with a framework for supporting change in themselves and others.

Ideal Audiences

  • Educational institutions
  • Higher education leaders
  • Corporate learning teams
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Leadership groups
  • Professional associations
  • Creators and entrepreneurs
  • Teams navigating change and innovation

Key Questions Explored

  • Why do smart people procrastinate?
  • Why do organizations repeat the same mistakes?
  • Why do we know healthy habits but struggle to maintain them?
  • Why doesn't training always change behavior?
  • Why do some ideas become action while others remain intentions?

Interactive Activities

The Knowing vs. Doing Exercise

Participants identify something they already know they should do but haven't done and explore the barriers standing between information and action.

The Transformation Map

Small groups examine a real-world challenge and identify where the breakdown occurs between awareness, motivation, capacity, and implementation.

The Identity Shift Activity

Participants explore the difference between asking:

"What do I need to do?" and "Who do I need to become?"

Audience Takeaways

Participants leave with:

  • A practical framework for behavior change.
  • A new perspective on motivation and capacity.
  • Strategies for reducing friction and increasing action.
  • Language for discussing transformation within teams and organizations.
